Sopwith Camel formed in San Francisco in 1965 and were the second S.F. band to get signed to a major label, and the first with a Top 40 hit in "Hello Hello." Their sound more resembled that of The Lovin' Spoonful than the local psychedelic rock of the area, having shared the same producer and label. Their second record, The Miraculous Hump Returns from the Moon, was released in 1973 but the group broke up soon after, never repeating the success of their first album.
