Based out of San Antonio, Texas, the Sir Douglas Quintet brought a previously unheard mix of Tex-Mex and Cajun music to rock and roll. Formed around guitarist Doug Sahm's soulful vocals and Augie Meyer's recognizable Vox Continental organ, the group was influenced by doo-wop, electric blues, soul music and British Invasion groups. Their 1968 hit, "Mendocino," sold 3 million units in Europe alone.
