U.K. supergroup Humble Pie was formed in 1968 and was composed of members Steve Marriott of The Small Faces, Peter Frampton from The Herd, Greg Ridley of Spooky Tooth, and drummer Jerry Shirley from Apostolic Intervention. With a rough sound that ventured into blues rock and even heavy metal, they also played acoustic sets and even delved into progressive rock. When Frampton left in 1972 to pursue his solo career, Marriott moved into the frontman role leading to a more bluesy, harder sound, and much greater commercial success.
