Bassist Jack Casady and guitarist Jorma Kaukonen created Hot Tuna as a side project during a break by the Jefferson Airplane in early 1969. They perfom a mix of electric blues rock and authentic acoustic blues. After the addition of violinist Papa John Creach in late 1970, the band began to focus more on their electric blues sound, but later returned to the more acoustic and lyrical compositions they favored.
