The originator of the P-Funk collective known variously as Parliament, Funkadelic and Parliament-Funkadelic, George Clinton is regarded as a visionary and a pioneer of funk music. The band(s) split their sound between the soul and R&B of Parliament, and the more adventurous whimsical tastes of Funkadelic which focused on funk-rock, influenced in part by the likes of Jimi Hendrix and Sly & the Family Stone. Clinton's influence on rap and hip-hop has been enormous and he's allowed sampling of his music by many artists. P-Funk generated over 40 hit singles and three platinum-selling albums during the 1970's and Clinton was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 1997.
