In the early 1960s the Chambers Brothers were performing gospel and folk music when Pete Seeger helped put them on the bill for the 1965 Newport Folk Festival. The group was developing a more rock and roll sound which was shown on their first record, People Get Ready. By the time of 1967's The Time Has Come, their sound had incorporated R&B, soul, funk, pop rock, and now the psychedelic soul of the eleven-minute epic "Time Has Come Today", which spent five straight weeks at #11 on the Billboard charts.
