Blue Oyster Cult is a New York-based hard rock band who first formed as Soft White Underbelly in 1967. Intended as an American version of Black Sabbath, the group's early sound featured heavy metal and psychedelic rock flavors. Their first platinum record was 1976's Agents of Fortune which yielded the hit single "(Don't Fear) The Reaper," which reached #12 on the Billboard charts.
